Last night, on Halloween, my wife and I managed to sell our 2014 Mazda3 to Carvana, dodge the nasty storms with risks of tornadoes, and pick up our new 2020 Subaru Outback Limited XT.

So, we missed trick or treaters, but g ave candy to our salesman and sales manager. The dealer managed to install the trailer hitch cleanly, which has been a problem for buyers of this car. However, they did not install the optional sport grille that I bought, but more critically, did not assemble and provide the Thule cargo carrier.

So I am back at the dealer this morning having them put the carrier together. This has delayed the start of our immediate use of the car for weekend camping in the mountains (with cold weather in effect). But that’s okay didn’t want to rush the hitch install, and got them to give me $400 more off the price to close the sale in October.

Carrier installed, off I go!

Turbo, right? How does it drive? Does the power seem adequate?

Turbo, yes.  Power is great, although I’m still teaching the CVT how to respond to my throttle input (bring it).

Nice car, wish I could afford a new one for my family, maybe someday. Those Outbacks have gotten huge over the model years. The bloat is real. Same thing with the Forrester, they used to be decently compact cars, now they are much bigger than the Impreza they are based on. Oh well, so goes the car industry, I suppose. Enjoy the car, may you drive it till the wheels fall off.

A lot of it is in the design language, the physical dimensions are only a few inches different in each direction. 4 inches longer, 4 inches wider, and 3 inches taller than a 2000 Outback
